Under Pressure!!!/ ICE ICE BABY

First I must state that I am in love with David Bowie, and think that Jennifer Connelly is one of the most beautiful women to ever exist, so naturally now that I have finally experienced labyrinth in full(props to my sister for getting it for me) I am in love with the movie (or the concept of it, I'm not sure). Just though I'd get that out of the way. I am totally juggling way too many things at one time with rapidly approaching deadlines; I feel like I thrive in this situation but then again I'm never gonna be the one to tell myself to stop. Between work, applying to Parsons and RISD, Design, Ceramics, headaches, and a slew of other medical problems I have quite a lot floating around in my abyss of a life. I'm not disgruntled by this workload (the past few weeks have been some of the most product of my life), but it is nonetheless hard to balance all of these aspects with everything else that is necessary for life to exist on this planet that is my hot bod. Here's some pictures!:

I hate you all (this includes myself)

Is blogging the new sex? slow death by arsenic poison? complete waste of time? something that makes me a complete hypocrite?

The answers to all of these and more next time!

Ok, now since it's next time the answer is clearly yes. However, I haven't written anything in forever and need to brush up for all of my college essays. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or just plain sad but the caliber of writing used in a blog such as this one is the same as that used in an admissions essay. I also find it sad that I need to internally justify doing something so heretical and disgusting as blogging, but usually have no problem doing other heretical and/or disgusting acts. As of last Wednesday (01/20/2010), I learned that my Parsons application is due on Feb 1st not Mar 1st, which well.....blows. It isn't too much of a problem seeing as most of the application and portfolio work is done, I just have to decide what works I'm going to use, and organize the series works (mainly architectural). This also requires polishing the architectural works which in most cases simply involves tracing over the initial sketch with a straight edge and french curves, but this process, although simple and easy, is tedious and time consuming. I also must do the parsons challenge, and have begun work on it and chosen my 3 topics: Gravity, Snow, and Comfort (WARNING!: Gravity, Snow and Comfort are all trademarked to Scott Michael Warner and anyone else ever using any of these ideas for anything will face heavy legal penalties!). Could these concepts and the rest of my works be better? The obvious answer being yes, but I find deadlines to be a good thing because without them I would never decide that anything was officially done. Not to mention with the time constraints I have I'm forced to act more on sheer intuition and instinct rather than contemplating shit for copious amounts of time. I'm currently working on the Alexander McQueen Building for the "icons" architectural series, and so far it looks pretty damn good, although I'm not sure how much McQueen it captures since I am no fashion mogul, and was also primarily influenced by McQueen's Atlantis and all the shit Lady Gaga's worn by him when I did the initial sketch and don't have time to do any more research into his aesthetic so hopefully I'm close enough. The gravity sculpture is also finished, but with sculptures making them is usually only half of it; Photographing it in a successful way is pretty difficult in my experience, however I feel that this sculpture will be fairly photogenic in comparison to other works.
Also I can not stop listening to really bad pop/catchy music. I used to be a person of extreme musical substance, and few of my playlist involved guilty pleasure music (Lil' Wayne, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, T.A.T.U. and Girl Talk all are heard way to often in my day). I am a big fan of Lady Gaga's work on most of what she's done and believe that alot of her work has some sort of musical and artistic merit, do indeed adore Lil' Wayne (but mostly as a character rather than as an actual musician, although anyone who can make a song about safe sex and keep it at the top of the charts for months is pretty damn special), Girl Talk is legitimate, but there is no excuse for Ke$sha, T-Pain, Usher, Akon, or Katy Perry (T.A.T.U. is obviously acceptable because they are A) Russian B) Hot and 3) Lesbians). This whole thing started when I decided that in order to keep up with the times, and try to better understand the aesthetic of my own generation I needed to listen to music like this. I find it more funny than sad that the general aesthetic of our generation (one which I thought was of unknowing apathy due to over-stimulation but is not) can be defined by songs such as Tik-Tok, Yeah!, Lollipop, Just Dance, I'm on a Boat, Buy U a Drank, etc. I both celebrate and lament this inevitable and easily realized culture of ours. However, I must say that in the past few years television has really come up with some great stuff such as Dexter, Californication, Band of Brothers, Community, The Office, Parks and Recreation, etc. Although, I think these shows are so successful because the majority of them mock modern society, and this act has become an incredibly easy thing to do because we live in a system that is in reality just as hilarious if not more so than these shows.
As said, I've been listening to terrible music, and "Beautiful" by Akon just started playing and I realized that this would and could be hilariously but successfully covered by the Cure. Think about it: The beat is similar to a poppy "Just Like Heaven" type beat, the whole note strings, and general chord structure of the song could easily be translated over to Simon Gallup style bass lines, Robert Smith playing 12 string acoustic, and Cure Strings circa 1987-1992. The melodic verse guitar also has the major key and sustaining qualities of a Curesque melody and if drenched in some reverb, chorus, and flange type effects could easily sound like....well the Cure when Robert Smith is feeling all happy and in love with Japan, the Sky, and/or Cats. Also "Yo moma's so fat, her butts got it's own area code!!!!" OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!
